When the kids are bed and the house has gone quiet, I’m writing. I write about my family, my home, my children, books I’ve read… and it’s not that I feel I have something to say, rather I simply want to be in the conversation.

And on the 7th day...we returned.

April 6, Unfortunately, we did not completely rest, but we did take a break from the house. There were several items awaiting pick up and a few items getting delivered to the house. So while still awaiting our second dumpster, we finished removing the panelling in the living room, and the baseboards, and staples around the house before making the necessary pick ups.

A natural side effect of the quarantine is a lot of online ordering and with online orders comes the inevitable return of items that don’t fit or look as they appear they will. Most stores are holding returns but for the items that are difficult or costly to ship back, I’ve gathered them in the “Return Room,” otherwise known as the spare bedroom.

A note from the future: If you haven’t figured it out, I’m writing these posts from my renovation diary. We’re actually on day 38 or 39 of our renovation (I’ve stopped counting). I’m still doing my best to make online orders or store pickups, but there are times that we go into Home Depot during the week (mostly in the morning). We aren’t perfect but we are trying to do our best and keep ourselves in check because we know staying at home is extremely important. While the option could have been not making any in person trips or not starting the renovation at all, the essential retail stores are still open and they are doing their best to keep their stores clean for the public. I firmly believe that some of these Home improvement projects are keeping people sane and we know first hand that having the activity of the renovation during this time has helped our mental health as well.
