April 4th and 5th, We spent the majority of these two days demoing the basement. Since we are quarantined with my husband’s parents, we were fortunate to have their help. It was not a two person job.
Mid-demo…
…looking bigger.
The laundry hookup is located in the basement and in order to move in I want a clean space to do laundry. Also, while we had a dumpster, we want to remove as much debris as possible.
First full dumpster.
Future laundry area. You can see the line on the floor where a wall of studs used to be.
We honestly had no idea how much debris would come out of the basement. The basement was at one time finished but due to the water damage, it was taken down to studs. Along with the studs there were dropped ceilings and drywall that needed to be removed. It filled what little remained of our 20 yard dumpster. We had to get an additional 10 yard dumpster to finish the job. Moral of the story: If your debating the size of dumpster you need, always get the bigger dumpster.
Walls down ….
… a much larger space.
Bags of insulation and…
… studs awaiting the arrival of the second dumpster.
It’s going to take a few days to get the second dumpster so demo won’t completely end after day six. We dedicated the second half of day six to taking down the wall between the master bath and the guest closet. We are taking a small sliver out of the closet to make the master shower less claustrophobic. By the end of the day we also had most of the baseboard pulled and the guest bath was gutted. We won’t we completing the guest bath until after we move in, but when you have a dumpster, you fill it.
